Three rules for sconces, vanity lights, and matched pairs.
Standard: 60–66 inches from the floor to the center of the fixture. Above a vanity: just above eye level (~64–66 inches).
A bedroom sconce flanking a headboard — centered at 62 inches.
Flanking a mirror or bed: 30–36 inches apart, centered on the headboard or mirror. Above artwork: 6–12 inches above the top of the frame.
A king bed (76 inches wide) calls for sconces 34 inches apart.
Up-facing fixtures suit ambient lighting (living rooms, hallways). Down-facing suit task lighting (vanities, reading nooks).
